Register manually deployed NSX-T Manager to cluster (due to OVA deployment timeouts)

Hi,

Because of IPsec VPN limitations with the modem, OVA deployments through that tunnel go very slow. So slow, that the NSX-T Manager (and intelligence probably as well) deployments time out while the OVA deployment is still running.

Is there a way that I can manually deploy the OVA to vCenter, and then join the Manager to the existing cluster? (and register the Intelligence VM to the Manager?)

I'm almost certain there is. Did you go read the documentation?

I was able to find that for the NSX-T Manager just now, but not for the NSX Intelligence appliance.

NSX Intelligence Appliance has to be added from the NSX-T Manager UI. What you can do if you cannot directly send the .ova bacause of your VPN is upload it to a web server that is accessible and when you click on "Add NSX Intelligence Appliance" under System > Appliances use a "Remote OVA link" and insert the URL where this .ova can be accessed.

The issue is not uploading it to the NSX-T Manager, the issue is that the NSX-T Manager is on one side of the VPN and I wanted the NSX-T Intelligence VM (if possible) on the other side of the VPN as I have more room there (CPU/RAM wise).

However, the deployment of the Intelligence VM reaches some kind of hard coded time limit it seems like during OVA deployment.

The only way to deploy NSX Intelligence is through the NSX UI. This means the ova is transferred from the NSX-T Manager to the target you input as your compute manager. In your case where the Manager is on one side of the VPN and the destination of the ova is on the other there is nothing that can be done. It must go through the VPN.
