vCenter /etc/hosts generated values

Hello Guru

May you help me learn under /etc/hosts I found these entries:-

# Begin /etc/hosts (network card version)

# End /etc/hosts (network card version)

# VAMI_EDIT_BEGIN

# Generated by Studio VAMI service. Do not modify manually.

127.0.0.1  h-i-al-19-sw02.intranet.hyperic.net h-i-al-19-sw02 localhost

::1  h-i-al-19-sw02.intranet.hyperic.net h-i-al-19-sw02 localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback

# VAMI_EDIT_END

hosts (END)

What is h-i-al-19-sw02.intranet.hyperic.net ? and why not edit manually while it's supposed to be another values my vCenter FQDN

I just added another NIC to my vCenter with IP configured would it be something could be related ?

Thanks  in Advance

Regards, İlyas

What is the PNID of your vCSA?

/usr/lib/vmware-vmafd/bin/vmafd-cli get-pnid --server-name localhost

You can set the hostname that matches with PNID using /opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_config_net

  1. The entry for h-i-al-19-sw02.intranet.hyperic.net is probably due to some need by internal components' monitoring requirements. Or possibly a safeguard in case the EpOps agent gets installed (reuses Hyperic code).
  2. You should not modify /etc/hosts by hand as it will get overwritten.
  3. If you have added more NICs to your vCSA, you have done something that is unsupported if not on 7.0 and could cause your vCenter to break in the future.
