DataStore Capacity Keeps Rolling Back

Hello there,

I have 2 VMware Datastores located on a Dell EMC.

I have increased the size on the Dell EMC, and then Increased the DataStore size in VMware.

However, the size showing in the client or the web console keeps reverting back.

This pictures shows what it keeps reverting back to:

Then all I do is hit the Refresh and it shows the correct Capacity, but that only lasts an hour at most:

Can anyone tell me how to get the 7TB to stick?

Welcome to the Community,

I've seen this a couple of times with different storage systems, and rescanning from the GUI didn't always help.

What helped in my case was to initiate a rescan - vmkfstools -V (please note the upper-case "-V") - from each of the hosts' command line.

Performed a storage rescan on all your hosts that can access the datastore?

Hi there! Have you tried rescanning all storage adapters from all the HBAs?

If you run the command esxcli storage filesystem list from ESXi, do you see the correct capacity?

Another thing that's worth looking is the LUN free capacity, For example, OneFS has an option to show the total LUN size or you can set it up to show the usable capacity

You can access the console either physically on the ESXi host, through management interfaces like iDRAC, iLO, or others, or by temporarily enabling the SSH service on the hosts (Configure -> Services), and connecting to them via e.g. putty.

Thank you to:

I connected via SSH using Putty.

List Data Store Info on ESX Server via command: esxcli storage filesystem list

Saw the wrong size.

Rescan Data Stores via command: vmkfstools -V

(Case sensitive)

List Data Store Info on ESX Server via command: esxcli storage filesystem list

Saw the size change.

After a few hours the size is still showing the correct amount now.

Thanks everyone for the help.
