Good afternoon, I want to virtualize with VMWARE this Server model with these Features, Dell PowerEdge R640 with 10 x 2.5 Backplane w / 3
PCIe Slots 2x Intel Silver 4110 2.1GHz 8-Core Processors 192GB RAM (12x 16GB DDR4 2133mhz RDIMMS) Internal Dual SD Card Reader w / 2x 32GB microSD Cards
2x 2.4TB 10K 12G 2.5 SAS (RAID 1) 4x 2.4TB 10K 12G 2.5 SAS (RAID 5), what product and version of VMWARE should I buy?
VMware is the name of a company, not a product. If you only have one physical server, you probably just want vSphere Essentials.
Just the one physical server? What VM workloads do you want to run?
You will be installing ESXi on the server(s), and will need some sort of vSphere license for each.
Have a read of this: https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/products/vsphere/vmware-vsphere-pr...
You can just download the EVAL and within 60 days you can
- sign up for the free ESXi Hypervisor
- Buy a $$$ license like vSphere Essentials which is the cheapiest
On that Server you can run ESXi 6.5,6.7 or 7.0 and you should install ESXi on that dual SD cards(most likely its already pre installed). About your SAS Disks i suggest to create single RAID by using all 6 Disk and not 2 small ones.
