VMware Workstation Pro 15.5.5 build-16285975 - No Numlock change in guest OS

After upgrading to version 15.5.5 I can no longer change the Numlock state in the guest maschine.

The Numlock state change works fine in the host maschine. The guest maschine keeps the Numlock state of the host maschine.

So I have to leave the guest maschine, change the Numlock state in the host maschine and the return into the guest maschine. Very cumbersome.

Anybody else with his problem?

Greetings from Germany,

Peter

Good evening,

my problem with the Numlock has disappeared due to the update to version 15.5.6. Even the slow running of the programs no longer occurs. In my view, my problems have disappeared.

Thank you very much for the fast solution.

Best regards from Hanover in Germany

Peter

As you can read in recent posts about CapsLock problems, unless everybody didn't reboot after 15.5.5 installation, there might be a keyboard problem, but better wait until we get an authoritative reply from VMware. Unless you absolutely can't work without NumLock control within the guest, I would suggest keeping calm and waiting a bit.

Hi,

I did try to reinstall, with and without the enhanced keyboard - no help. Without the enhanced keyboard driver it was slightly better.

The Numlock state could be changed, but the indicator light did not show the change. The change was displayed when I hit with the mouse the uppper screen edge to temporarily leave the guest maschine for display of the VMware menu.

But alle the guest maschines were incredibly slow, no way to work with them. Resizing explorer windows took seconds. I could literally watch the window corner slowly following my mouse, which took 3 to 4 seconds. The systems just did not react as usual.

I have enough memory (64 GByte), I have SSD disks, I have 4 3,1 GHz cores, no problems from this side.

To continue work I went back to version 15.5.2 build-15785246. Not a one click solution, since the installer does not support downgrade. So uninstall and reinstall. All problems gone with the older version.

Now I am waiting for a fix.

Peter

Adding this config option to your VM's vmx file or host-config file may work-around the issue:

mks.win32.useInjectedMagic=FALSE

My problem is slightly different.

I can change the state of CAPS LOCK in my VM, however, the indicator light on the CAPS LOCK key doesn't reflect the state change in the VM until the mouse cursor hovers over a host window (on another monitor) or even by hovering over the VMWare Workstation toolbar, which is also running on the host.  However, there is a more inconvenient issue...If I toggle the CAPS LOCK state while hovering over a host window without clicking on the host to make that window the active window, then return to the VM window and click in it to activate it, then type, raNDOM cAPital LETTers aPpeAr LikE thIs.
