VMWare Redundant VDI

Hi,

I have some questions about redundant VDI.

Currently, VDI takes about 20 seconds to failover. Is there a way to speed up the process ?

Instant clones assigned based on load balance.

On Host disconnect, Horizon View freezes and closes after 2 minutes. Can this time be shortened ?

Once reconnected to new VM there is still a 20 seconds delay. (Time to load/autologin).

> Can you please brief further what do you mean by failover? Are you diconnecting and reconnecting to desktop pool and referring that as failover?

> Are you talking about esxi host disconnect Or connection server disconnect? I understand you are talking about when user diconnects from desktop and try to reconnect from horizon client, it takes around 2min and VM freezes and closes? Correct me if I am wrong.

What I mean by failover is switching to a redundant VM when the first one gets disconnected.

So, to simplify everything, I want to know what is the shortest delay we can reconnect to a new VM if there is loss of entire Host.

Sorry if I am not that clear.

Current Setup (Clustered)

Host 1 VM's

Horizon Connection Server

Primary DC

Host 2 VM's

Horizon Replica Server

Secondary DC

When the first one gets disconnect, you will be reconnected to same VM when you will try to reconnect (Except certain multisession conditions and if logoff after disconnect is not set to 'immediately'). If you are getting a new VM even though your previous session is in 'disconnected' state, thats a 'Problem' that needs to be resolved.

Hence there is no question of failover. So the actual question may be "There is a delay while doing a reconnect to the same VM"?

If in case that VM is no longer available due to underlying CS failure or host failure etc, you will be logged in to new VM. Expected time is around 5-6 seconds (if you have other VMs in avaliable state in View)

If the delay is longer, you need to troubleshoot based on various factors. You can check 20 to 30 second black screen on reconnecting with PCoIP and Blast  and VMware Knowledge Base  if they help.
