Word fonts installed on golden image, not showing on user VDIs

So I've encountered a strange issue with Word fonts on Win10. I've installed a few specific ones on our golden image, and thinking it would act the same as Win7, it should show on every user VDI after a new image recompose.

But that is not the case, the fonts installed do now show as an option in users Word, and they have to install them manually everyday - to open any documents including the mentioned fonts.

What is strange is that when users have to install them again, it says that "The font is already installed, do you want to replace it?", but it does not show as an option in Word.

Does anyone know what could be causing this issue, and how to solve it?

We are using ESXI servers with Vsphere, that has multiple pools with different golden/base images that we update and roll out regularly.

With or without VMware Horizon?

If you are using Horizon, this thread can be moved to that forum area.

If not, a Microsoft-specific community would be a better place to post your issue.

Hi Rok1215

  • Which build and version of Windows are you running on your computer?
  • Please check if the fonts are listed in Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Fonts in VDI.

  • Please check again if the fonts are listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts on problematic VDI.
  • Do you see the fonts under %systemdrive%\Windows\Fonts on VDI?
  • Are you installing fonts by doing right click and 'Install fonts for all users' on gold image?

Hi all

Has this ever been resolved?
I'm having the same issue. I installed the Fonts for all users on the masterimage, also checked that all users have permission. However after deploying it to the VDI, I cannot find the fonts in the C:\windows\fonts folder. Also strange, in applications e.g. Word I can "chose" the font but it is not shown int he dropdown instead it's just blank where the font is usually  displayed.
In the registry the fonts are shown...

Hi everyone,

Any resolution to this?  I'm having the same issue now that we upgraded to Horizon 8 version 2012 and Window 10 20H2 from Horizon 7.13 and Windows 10 1809.

Hi

I got it to work on my image, however it was such a fiddly matter. I have done so many things I cannot really pinpoint the cause of the issue.
In the end what worked for me:
1. Since I had the fonts in my registry but not visible in C:\windows\fonts I did delete them from the registry.
2. When I checked the C:\windows\fonts with an elevated cmd I could see the fonts, so I did delete the fonts with an elevated cmd from C:\windows\fonts
3. I opened an elevated cmd and copied the fonts into the c:\windows\fonts folder
4.Go to c:\windows\fonts (the fonts were now visible) and right click them and choose "install for all users"

Hope this will work for you too!
