We have an old ERP that cannot be replaced, the industrial devices have an hardcoded IP address and do not support DNS resolution.
For resiliency and DR continuation we need to have two devices in a different location but they need to be on the same network segment, so stretching the VLAN across two site separated geographically.
We have already a VMware infrastructure in plase, so i was wondering if we can leverage this to extend the physical box the VXLAN functionality.
Thank you
Technically possible , however there are requirements and supported design option. Keep a close eye on latency requirements ( your design is demanding separate geographical DC connectivity)
Please do check https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/products/nsx/vmware-multi-site-sol...
Thank you for the information, I have read through the document and yes technically is possible, it would need proof of concept with tested phases. Just to clarify I will put a little drawing her to further explain what we want/need to achieve.
We need the network 192.168.0.0 to be presented at both site on the collapsed core layer. The design is very simple to not overwhelme.
Yes that is perfect. Take care of MTU and latency requirements.
Thank you very much, any suggestion on how to source an evaluation copy ?
You will have to get in touch with a sales representative in your region if you have POC requirements as i strongly believe you will also consider monitoring&syslog along with this solution. You could also explore VMware Learning Platform to explore it from a technical perspective
NSX-T is available for evaluation here: evalcenter
Thank you for the direction, I'll look into this as it seems to come close to what we need, I believe when installed on bare metal it has the flexibility to get all what is on his southbound stretched to the other peer southbound. I need to lab it up and est it intensively as it need to prove to be robust for production environment.
