I am trying to test Workstation on Linux. I installed version 12 without any error during install but when I go to start it nothing happens. When I try the restart command I get this:
sudo /etc/init.d/vmware restart
Stopping VMware services:
VMware Authentication Daemon done
VM communication interface socket family done
Virtual machine communication interface done
Virtual machine monitor done
Blocking file system done
Starting VMware services:
Virtual machine monitor failed
Virtual machine communication interface done

Virtual ethernet failed

I don't know enough about Linux to know where to go from here. I am running Linux Mint 19.3.
WMWare 12 is not compatible with the Kernel form Linux Mint 19.3. Install a recent version of WS!
Not the first time you have posted about WS 12 and Mint: Workstation 12 won't run
Please refer to the supported host OSes list: VMware Knowledge Base
I thought at that time the issue was CPU support for virtualization but I've gotten a new computer. Is there no way to get it to work? I don't have a license for anything higher.
Is there no way to get it to work?
Try to find anyone, who writes a patch for the module sources to make them supported by your running kernel.
There are already patches for 12.5.9, see branch "workstation-12.5.9" at https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules
How would I install that exactly.
