increasing virtual disk capacity

Hello folks,

I use VMware 8.5.10 running Windows XP on an iMac with Mojave an I decided to increase my virtual disk size which was created years ago with a size of 20 GB.

I opened VMware, went to Setting and then to Hard Disk (IDE) and enlarged it to 41 GB. Took few m inutes and I got a message it was resized. I started the virtual machine and went to My Computer and clicked on the C unit and for my surprise it still shows 19.9 GB.

Any help and guidance will be highly appreciated

Regards   Paulo

You have to go into the control panel and expand the disk inside the guest - expanding it from Fusion just adds unallocated space to the virtual disk.

Hi  dlhotka,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for this very late reply. I wasn't able to see it earlier.

May I ask a little more detail: (1) What "control panel" you refer to? The Virtual Machine settings?; (2) "...expand the disk inside the guest - " ?  Could you please clarify?

Thanks in advance

Paulo

It's the Disk Management that will allow you to resize the partition within Windows.

Hi,

IIRC then using disk management for resizing the boot drive doesn't work on Windows XP.

In that case have a look at:

and

One additional tip: Make a backup of your VM before you do this!

(eg. shut down the VM and using Finder copy & paste the complete bundle to an external disk )
