Could you try the solution in Fusion 11 VMware tools update fails? Maybe you will need to use the new tool installer to uninstall the old tools.

It seems a repair also clears up the error.

I have the same issue and I was not able to remove the "VMware Tools" directory through Window 7 Enterprise after following the direction from NeiltonVieira post until I went into the VM through the DOS prompt and removed the offending file with the VMware Tools directory.  I was able to re-install VMware Tools after that without the message as listed.

First -> Install KB2975061, Install KB2919355 and restart the Computer.
Second -> Update VMWARETools from the VMware console. (From the VMware console, check if a new version is running, if not, follow the step below)

In the server: remove past "VMware" in "c:\ Program Files \ Common Files"
In Control Panel remove only recent installation: Microsoft Visual C ++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x86 and x64)
Restart the computer
Mount a VMWare installation on the console
Log in to the Server and install.

Finish.

Goodnight,
It has worked for me by uninstalling "Microsoft Visual C ++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x86 and x64)" and, without restarting, installing the VMTools.
Thank you!

Ricard

I just had this issue on a few WIdows 10 VMs today after I had done an update on ESX 6.7. The uninstall of the Visual C++ was the fix. Thanks for having found that fix long ago.

I just removed both versions of C++ Redist 2015-2019 and tried another install and everything worked fine!

Had the same issue...

Moved the image to another ESXi server w/ a newer VMware tools version.

Installed correctly w/ version 11360.

Could you clarify what versions of Windows, Fusion and macOS you are running?

Could you also indicate what happens when you try to install?

Also is this a Windows VM that you created or have moved/imported from another source?

It's not clear to me if you're using ESXi or not. The processes are different for making VMware Tools available for installation in a vSphere environment as opposed to a VMware Fusion environment.

You always have the option of downloading an installer for VMware Tools from the VMware Download center. https://customerconnect.vmware.com/downloads/details?downloadGroup=VMTOOLS1125&productId=742

But if the VMware Tools installer doesn't install the prerequisite versions of the Visual C++ Redistributable, then you'll have to get those from Microsoft.

You may want to post this question over in the vSphere list. https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-vSphere/ct-p/2000-home

This list focuses on the VMware Fusion for Mac product.
