vmdk missing after runing vim-cmd /vmsvc/unregister

Anyone can help?

I ran vim-cmd /vmsvc/unregister due to a invalid entry on VSphere 6.7

After doing that I went to VSphere console to add a new vm using the previous vmdk and, surprise, the vmdk was no longer there!!! All other files where on the folder and only the vmdk is missing!!!

Will I be able to, somehow, recover the file? Did it "move" somewhere else???

Thanks in advance,

Pedro

Hi,

check if the "xxx-flat.vmdk" file exists in the virtual machine folder. If it exists you can follow this kb:

The problem is that the file is not there!!! I can't find it anywhere on the disk!

Hi,

This is very strange because a file does not change its position by itself. You can post an image of the virtual machine folder.

VMW.JPG

File name should be the one marked (vmgestao_0.vmdk).

When I tried to mount the vm again it created a new one, as you can see 513bytes... the original file, I can't find it!!!

Hi,

I don't think you can do much for your virtual machine.

The command executed does not delete or move files from the source folder of the virtual machine. Try to retrace the steps of what happened. Only this cannot be.

that was the command I issued, nothing else!!!

vim-cmd vmsvc/unregister 1

After issuing the command I tried to re-attach the vm and file was gone!!!

Will send hd to Recovery Lab and hope they can do something about the file!

Thank you for your help

Ok! I understand, the only possible solution is a restore.

Please take a look at the small .vmdk file as well as the .log files to find out whether the VM's virtual disk is stored in another folder.

In doubt, compress/zip these files, and attach the .zip archive to a reply post.
