NSX-T Datacenter Distributed Firewall License

Hey everyone,

I am fairly new to NSX-T DC and have a small licensing quenstions.

I am using NSX-T in Version 2.5.1.0.0.15314288, Standard edition and I am able to create East-West Firewall rules on the DFW although this feature like VPN or LoadBalacing should not be available in Standard edition according to the datasheet https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/products/nsx/vmware-nsx-datasheet....

Am I missing something here?

Kind regards

Tim

License is not strictly enforced, so although you are able to configure the features you are legally not supposed to.

Hi,

I was refering to the Distrubuted Firewall which should be available in every license higher than Standard.

Never the less I am able to create rule on the Distrubuted Firewall. I am looking for an explaination why I can access this feature although its not included in my license.

Thank you for the answer, any chance there is an official statement from VMware regarding this?

Otherwise I will use the support.

Missing license compliance checks sound pretty bad, especially in provider environments.

There is the following statement on VMware's Product Guide on page 16:

"Restriction on Features. Each edition of the Software (Standard, Professional, Advanced, Enterprise or Enterprise Plus) offers different features and functionality. You may access and use only the features and functionality that correspond with the edition of Software You have validly licensed. Those features and functionality are detailed at the following links: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2145269 and https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/52462. You agree to not access or use any feature or functionality of an edition of the Software to which You are not entitled based on the edition of Software You have validly licensed. "
