unable to install vmtools on debian 10 using workstation 15.5

Thank yoiu in advance

Setup is unable to find the "depmod" program on your machine. Please make sure

it is installed. Do you want to specify the location of this program by hand?

[yes] Use of uninitialized value $gOption{"default"} in numeric eq (==) at ./vmware-install.pl line 866, <STDIN> line 3.

Hello, Ikemp

Thanks for your posting.

For quickly installing vmware tools, could you please try to install the open-vm-tools by running "apt-get install open-vm-tools"? before that, please make sure apt repository has been changed to public repository from cd/dnd which is the default setting for debain. Since workstation 15.5, open-vm-tools is more recommended. In the meanwhile, this issue will be tried locally to see whether it could be reproduced. Thanks again.

Hello, Ikemp

the problem is, that you switch to root without "su -". I first had the same problem, by chance I found an entry in another forum, which reminded me of it again.

At my system it works fine.

I hope, it helps you.

After login at console with su (type root passwd and you're now as root in console) try to type the next:

sudo ./vmware-install.pl -d default

Why sudo (not su)? I don't know but it helped me.

In my case works as "sudo ./vmware-install.pl " in root-mode Smiley Happy
