DEM Server File Locations GPO - Can i put it directly on the GI ( local group policy ) ?

Hi - we are having some users randomly in the morning when they log in not having their DEM kick in . Backgounds are missing..etc.  Support told us it could be a Group Policy Issue .  The Appstacks are there... just seems DEM is not engaged - desktop icons / shortcuts gone..etc.

We Are using :

instant Clones / DEM / App Stacks / Win 10 LTSB / Horizon 7.6

We are currently setting all the DEM jazz via Group Policies. This works somewhat well .

We however randomly get a user that logs in during the morning and DEM doesnt appear to be working.. ie Shortcuts on desktop gone..etc.  No redirect.

They reboot once and all is well for rest of day . Doesnt appear to happen every day.. and not to the same users when it does.

We DO use Loopbacks a ton in our GPO's.. never been a problem.. we are trying to del unnecessary GPO's.. and consolidate small common ones .

Is there Any way to place the DEM Server File Locations on the Gold Image ?... so it bypasses GP for these ?

Can i place them in the local group policy of the GI w/ no issues ?

I think i read a KB that said if you needed to apply a GPO that required a reboot ( this one doesnt obviously ) - that one could put the GI in the OU and run gpupdate on it ?... that didnt make much sense.. we dont usually add our GI's onto the Domain..etc.  Should we ?.. personal pref it sounds like ??

Getting Group Policies to apply using Win 10 and Instant clones..seems difficult without having to do a reboot.. at least for us .

we Do have the "Always wait for network at computer startup and logon"  engaged as well of course .

thank you .

Look at

Installing and Configuring FlexEngine in NoAD Mode

I currently have almost no gpos on our desktops now, and I think it works better. Instead of gpos you point the agent to an xml file.

HI Douglas42Adams,

sjesse is correct: NoAD mode would be a much better approach than trying to get this to work with local Group Policy.

(As for your other remarks about Group Policy: that's more related to Instant Clones and machine policy settings.)
