VPP app- Device based licensing with non DEP device

Hello Team, Will non-DEP/unsupervised device will get the VPP app If the VPP app is deployed with managed distribution with Device based licensing? If yes, then does app converts to user based licensed VPP app on device or App on device will just prompt for Apple ID as like any other non VPP app?@

Yes, Volume Purchased Apps can be deployed with device-based licensing to non-DEP devices.   The difference is that with non-DEP/unsupervised devices, the user will still get a prompt that the organization wants to manage applications on the device.   With DEP/Supervised devices, the opt-in is silent and therefore the app install is automatic/silent.

On a non DEP device, would you say that assigning a VPP app will simply prompt user to download the app from the App Store instead of pushing it silently?

chengtmskcc​, not exactly.   On a non-supervised device, the user gets a prompt that “[Organization] would like to manage apps on this device” and they have to OK this prompt.   The user does not get redirected to the app store to get the app.  Rather, the license is still assigned to the device (assuming you’re using device-based licensing) and the app install flow is similar to the Supervised experience.   It’s just that without supervision, the experience isn’t silent and the user does get prompts to answer.
