I would like to check if the below scenario is possible.
1) I have work load (VM) in VMC . The VM has IP address say 192.168.100.10
2) I would like to move this VM to native AWS on EC2. The EC2 in AWS should be able to retain the same IP Address & D.G
Question:
- Let me know if this is possible ?
- Is it possible to move workload from VMC to native AWS (EC2) & still maintain the IP Address ?
Any Inputs
Amazon describes this here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/amp/latest/userguide/migrate-vms.html#migrate-limitations
Have you checked HCX? https://cloud.vmware.com/vmware-hcx
If they are 2 separate environments, then the simplest answer is yes you can, but there are limitations and caveats that you should check before moving (i.e. licenses, equivalent size in AWS EC2, network subnet in AWS VPC, etc..). You can retain the same IP as long as your AWS VPC CIDR block doesn't overlap with your VMware SDDC Compute Network (if they are connected via VPN or ENI).
You can export and then import a VMware VM (including VMware Cloud on AWS SDDC VM) into native AWS EC2 using Amazon VM Import/Export or another method.
