MacOS10.8 VM, installing Final Cut Studio3, VRAM/GPU error

Hello,

I have created a VM of MacOS 10.8 on my machine (MacPro running OS 10.12).  I am trying to install Final Cut Studio in the VM OS10.8 environment, and keep getting this error:

FCPerror.jpeg

I have tried changing the VRAM size on the .vmx by adding:

svga.vramSize =  134217728

the VM OS says that I have 128MB VRAM, but the installer still says I have 0MB VRAM, and also does not see the graphics card the host has (Radeon HD 5770 with 1024MB VRAM)

VRAM.jpeg

can someone help me how to trick the installer to "see" that it has enough VRAM and also see the GPU of the host?

VMware does not pass through the host GPU on any of the hosted product such as Fusion and Workstation. It has it's own video adapter which is not going to be able to run Final Cut as it does not have full 3D acceleration.

update:

I managed to figure out by editing one of the installer files will allow me to bypass minimum VRAM limitation.

but still can't figure out how to let Fusion pass through the GPU information of the host to the guest OS.  the GPU is supported (installer works if run directly on the host)

anyone with any ideas?

A bit more nuance on this - Fusion provides emulated accelerated graphics for Windows guests, but not for OSX.  OSX itself doesn't have hooks to allow it, so it's an apple limitation.

hello akita, may I ask whether you are trying to install FCP Studio 3 in order to run Final Cut, and/or any of the other applications?
I ran into the same issue as you, when trying to get Soundtrack Pro and DVD Studio Pro running, and was able to circumvent these error messages.

If you go to "Show Package Contents/Contents/Resources" of each of the FCP apps, each one will have a requirements or minsys.plist file in which the keys are defined that need to be met as a minimum requirement...each one *can* be set to block "NO", and force the app to actually start, even if those requirements are not met...I was able to get Soundtrack Pro and DVD Studio Pro to start and function this way, although FCP is still giving me issues about the Firewire DV device that can't be found and then quits...I am pretty sure that there is a way to circumvent that as well by finding and changing the default startup parameters. If you can find that file and parameter, please share it with us here.

Good luck, I hope you can figure it out!

And a Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate Christmas Smiley Happy

TillKrueger,

Thanks for the tip about getting DVD pro to run.  It worked for me, however, the app crashes when attempting to build/compile a disc image.  Have you had any luck with that?
