Solved: Re: Installer Crash

Hello,

I'm trying to install VMWare Workstation (VMware-workstation-full-15.5.1-15018445.exe) on Windows 10 Pro for Workstation (naturally 64bit) but when I run the installer, it crashes.

I've tried to install also VMWare Player (VMware-player-15.5.1-15018445.exe), and i'v got the same restult.

In the vminst.log I can see that there is an error during the file extraction.

Hi Wil,

I finally solved the problem. I installed VC runtime, restarted, then ran the vmware installer. The exe crashes during vc extraction.

In the %tmp% folder now I can see the temp folder with the consistent msi installer. I run it and the software has been installed.

Now, I don't know what and why on my machine the exe fail to extract all data, but I managed to bypass the problem.

Welcome at the VMware community forums.

In the vminst.log I can see that there is an error during the file extraction.

Your snippet does not appear to have an error, so it doesn't help much as that part is missing.

Thanks for the reply.

Those are the last few lines of the log file. There are no error either in those lines or in the previous ones. The same behavior occurs with VMWare Player.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall VC14 but the problem persists.

I have no idea how to fix this and it seems that nobody has ever had this problem.

If it helps, I attach the complete log file.

Do you perhaps already have another VMware product installed?

If so then that might confuse the installer (it's one of the reported issues I've seen here where for example an installed vmrc prevented installing VMware Workstation)

Not sure what VC14 has to do with the latest VMware products?

If you mean that you tried installing VC runtime components then you would have to use something more modern..

Install both the x86 and x64 and reboot, then try installing again.

Yes, VMware Workstation / Player does depend on that and Yes there are installer problems with the VC runtime components that have been reported by a number of users.
