esxi upgrade

we have psod error on esxi hosts. the problem nic driver. now we want to upgrade esxi host and nic, firmware etc..

psod problem usually happens when moving virtual machine to another host then suddenly esxi host crashes . I want to ask something, how can I upgrade esxi host without moving virtual machines. some servers have to work 24/7 . maybe esxi may shut down when moving servers

how can i upgrade without turning off the servers also there is psod bug .

One option could be to setup VMware Fault Tolerance and then enable on that Virtual Machine so its protected to another ESXi Host, then there will be protection for when you restart the source host for Upgrade.

You would just need to follow setup for Fault Tolerance and could get a trial licence if you dont have the ESXi licence to cover this feature

If you want to upgrade a host it is best practise to put the host in maintenance and then perform the upgrade. This would mean you have to move VMs to another host. Personally I think there is no such thing as 24/7 uptime. IMHO you should design an infrastructure in such a way that you minimize the downtime in case of a failure but be prepared for something to go wrong. Something with pets and cattle...

It could be that FT is a temporary solution for you but it depends on the VM that you want to be fault-tolerant.

Consider giving Kudos if you think my response helped you in any way.
