connecting Standalone converter to VCenter 6.7 u3 as the destination

Has anyone tried connecting to VCenter 6.7U3 with the lastest Standalone converter? Keep getting the following error when trying to connect. "Unable to recognize the server type or version when connecting to the host"

This is because it is not compatible with vCenter 6.7 u3.

Hi,

Instead of loading it from the converter to vCenter 6.7 U3, load it from the converter to the ESXi host. You manage it the same way from vCenter.

Hi Alessandro,

Thank you for your response. I've tried connecting directly to the host but I keep getting this message. "The access to the host resource settings is restricted to the server "IP of VCenter server" Use the management server as a destination."

Unless I'm doing something wrong....

Hi,

This type of error is related to services that do not respond as they should, try restarting these services and then run the converter.

Enable SSH on the ESXi host from the console:

  • /etc/init.d/hostd stop
  • /etc/init.d/vpxa stop
  • /etc/init.d/hostd start
  • /etc/init.d/vpxa start

Thank you Rick. I had that feeling but wanted to confirm. I didn't know about the Interoperability Matrices.

Hi,

it's like Rick says

You can always install an ESXi 6.7u1 (free version) "Download VMware vSphere"  in a test environment, do the conversion with the vcenter converter standalone, then export it to OVA format and import it into your 6.7U3 environment

Have you read the yellow message? It states the ESX is attached to VC and can't be used separately but only through VC. And this is from long time ago - ESX could not be used to create and destroy VMs directly *if* it is attached to VC.

Does anyone know if a future version of the Converter that will support the latest vCenter versions?

I can confirm that I´ve converted a Powered off VM with vCenter Standalone Converter 6.2.0 Build 8466193 using as source a VM hosted at ESXi 6.7U2a and as destination, vCenter Appliance 6.7 Update 2a (6.7.0.31000) and all has gone fine.

Next week I´ll try to do it at vCenter 6.7U3b; and then I´ll give you news.
