Importing device to a smart group

Hi.

We've got a smart group that has 10 ' special apps'  assigned to it. The group contains 200 devices from all over our MDM system. The device that gets these apps, changes every year. I have to add each device manually. I.E. Search for the ipad name and add one and one.

Please tell me there is a better way.. Importing a csv file with serial numbers like we can for DEP-profiles would save me so much time.

Hi , Yes you can do that
1st create : Tag - go to settings :Devices & Users > Tags> Create Tag
2nd link that TAG to your smart group: Edit your smart group & add tag in the Criteria. if that option is not available then create  a new smart group with that Tag.
3rd Assign new smart group to all your apps.
4th Import devices using Batch import function. Go to Devices >lifecycle>Enrollment Status >Add> Batch Import> Download the template for User and/or Device .

then fill the details like serial number , IMEI , USER & in Tag column : mention the Tag that you have created.
Upload the batch file & the device will automatically get assigned to your smart group.
further apps will get pushed.

Wow.. Seriously. Mind blown!
Thank you much!

Just to check if I understand. If I import a list of devices, and only add serial number and the tag. Then already enrolled device will get that tag. And nothing else will change? They don't lose their DEP-profile, OG or any assignements? This function only adds / change what I've added in the import template?

A follow up question. How to I remove the tags from the same devices I add them to? Re-import the same file, without the tag? ...

yes Batch import will only add things it wont modify anything unless you made changes to it.

Removing Tag  from Device - Search the device with the serial number / IMEI - Tab on More actions from top right of your screen-> Under Admin > Assign Tags > Tab on the tag that you have assigned to this device & save the changes.

Hi again.
So I've finally got the time to test this out.
I just want to add a tag to a coupe for devices. So I've edited the import-templates and removed everything except ' Device serial number'  and ' Tags' .
When I import the file, I get a message telling that it saved successfully. However, the tags are not added. I've fiddled with the .csv, but I just can't seem to get the tag added to the device. Do I need more than just the serial number and tag?

Is there a way to just import based on Serial Number? I tried just entering the Device Group ID, Serial Number, and Tag but the batch status returns ' the argument is required' .  I assume that means every column that has an * is required.  If I all but the columns that I need, I get an error ' The columns in the spreadsheet do not match the template.'
