' lost' liscenses due to ' externally redeemed licenses'

Lately I've been seeing more and more licenses being locked to ' externally redeemed licenses' .
Example: Bought 100 new licenses and tried to push them out to 100 devices. I only had 45 available, because 55 where ' externally redeemed' .
I found a post in the knowledge base that described a solution. Basically I had to remove all the assignments, remove the application and re-sync the licenses from VPP. Which, of course, resulted in 800 devices losing everything saved in that app.

I'm waiting for the support team to provide me with a script to revoke the externally redeemed licenses. But I would like to know if anybody else has had this problem. And maybe any of you know why I'm having this problem with so many applications.

We also also have this problem in our environment. Example: When the students in our environment move from grade 1 to grade 2 they also moves from UserGroup grade 1 to UserGroup grade 2 and this again affects AssignmentGroup grade 1 and AssignmentGroup grade2. App X is assigned to both of the grade 1 and grade 2 groups and when this happens, the licences are placed under externally redeemed licenses. This is covered here: https://support.workspaceone.com/solutions/SOL-12024 ' 2. This behavior also appears when a device moves from one assigned smart group into another.'  We also see this issue: 1. If a device is included in two smart groups assigned to one VPP application, deleting the assignment whose smart group id was attributed to the license association first in our database will cause the Edit Assignment menu to display the license as Externally Redeemed

Thanks for your feedback.
The problem I'm having is that I've unenrolled the devices before re-enrolling in a new smart group. I should not have this issue. Even on apps that have not changed devices / smartgroup I have this issue.

Support ran different queries on our DB, but they have not come up with a fix yet. So basically I've got to spend 10 000 USD on new licenses. Licenses that I've already purchased but can't push out to our devices.  The only other alternative, is to remove all the assignments from the app, delete in and re-sync the licenses. But I would be burned by my users if I did that.

Hi,
I got the same issue.
And this summer, due to a crash of the Air Watch plateform, my token got removed from AirWatch, which removed all my assignments and licences.
I cannot even remove these assignments anymore ...
Would love a solution and will open a ticket now, seeing that I'm not the only one struggling with this problem without a proper solution.
