Another no DHCP in Wi-Fi Bridge mode thread >_<

Hello,

I've gone through all the threads related to this issue but many are dated or running different hardware. I have a brand new Windows 10 virtual machine running (Fusion Version 11.5.1) on my Mac host and it refuses to get an IP address (Bridge mode, IP should be on same subnet as Trusted network) when I am using the Wi-Fi connection on my Mac.

  • We have a Fortinet Firewall and a Fortinet Wireless AP connected to an HPE Office connect switch.
  • This only happens at the office. If I go home or some other locations, I am able to get an IP address no problem.
  • When I hardwire it (trusted network) it works fine.
  • I did some packet sniffing and determined the VM host is sending out a DHCP request, the firewall is sending back an acknowledgement, but it's never reaching the client. Somewhere on the switch or Wireless Access Point it's being lost for some reason.
  • If I set a static IP for the Virtual machine it also works fine when using the Mac Host on Wi-Fi. This is unfeasible though as a solution for all users.
  • I contacted VMWare but they said I needed to enable "Proxy ARP" which I've never heard of and is not a feature of Fortinet (or they don't call it the same thing) and called it a day.
  • Also, not to bring up another vendor, but Parallels works perfectly. I have so much regret right now with going with VMWare. They were once the leader.

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

J

Many commercial AP's are configured to only allow one IP per physical MAC address. That may be the problem (perhaps Parallels is actually NATTing the host connection)?
