did "shutdown -r now" on centOS client and now won't boot. Any way to recover? :)

I'm just learning Linux (CentOS) and I did a "shutdown -r now" i.e. reboot command, in Terminal, and .... it didn't reboot. It gets a long way, looks like it's trying to start GNOME up, but never completes.

I'm guessing you aren't supposed to use shutdown commands when running inside VMWare? Smiley Happy

Anyway, it's no biggie, I can just create a new virtual machine if necessary, but before doing that, I was wondering it there was a way to recover the situation.

You can shutdown and reboot VMs from within the OS, theres no restrictions on this just because its virtualised so its unlikely that the command was the cause of the issue. I assume GNOME just never starts? or does it hang after its started
