How to filter for VMs with certain Tags in HTML5 vSphere Web Client?

Dear community,

how do I filter by Tags in the HTML5 version of the Web Client?

I'm working in the 6.5 version (VCSA) (Build Number 9451637).

With the flash-based vSphere Web Client it's easy to filter by Host, by Cluster or side-wide by specific tags, whereas the HTML5 version will show me either nothing or just the global use of VMs with a specific tag in the whole vCenter.

Isn't it possible to filter by an hierarchical object other than the whole vCenter or is this perhaps a limitation of the 6.5 HTML5 version?

Here you see the 'classical' view you know (and love?) from the Flash client. The filter applies to the selected host only and the VM list can be narrowed down by selecting specific tags (Auto-complete is active in the "Tags" form field).

Here is the same host selected, only difference is that I switched to the HTML5 Client.

The thing is that I cannot extend the filters or don't know how to filter by a specific tag in the circled form field "Filter".

Any help / answer is appreciated.

Thanks you guys!

That's searching by tag, not filtering. I want to look at a cluster and filter VMs with specific tags in that cluster. You can do this in the web client, but not the HTML5 client.

Hello,

You can try update to vSphere 6.7u1. There is search improvment in this update.

I have just upgraded to 6.7 U3 and still can't do this. I'm having to use the "flex" client, which now shows as "deprecated.

There is a VMware KB that suggests you can filter by tags in the HTML5 client, but I can't see how it is possible: Quick Filters Available for vSphere Objects

Edit that: Looking at my own screenshot, VMware refer to the "Flex" client as the "Web Client" so the information in the KB link above is correct, quick filters for tags are available in the "Web Client" or "Flex Client", but not in the HTML5 client.

I'm having the same problem.

As per documentation

Use Quick Filters

it seem like quick filters should be available in 6.7, as should a menu called "Layout Settings"

Customize the User Interface by Using the Layout Settings Menu

I have neither of those. (But I can move panes.... )

We're running 6.7.0, build 14320388 (u3) on the hosts, 6.7.0, build 14368073 on the VCSA.

Still an issue in VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 14320388

Please add the search/filter icon to HTML5.

Verifying that it works in 6.7U2. Just start typing the name of a Tag in the seach bar::

Then you get to the tag permissions, click Objects:

You can also use PowerCLI:

get-cluster clustername | get-vm -Tag "Tag name"

Yes, looks like you're right. That functionality is still missing from the html5 client.
