Hello I am using vmc on aws and we want to find out what how much egress are each vmc on aws VMs doing so we can chargeback those costs to the different business groups that use VMs in vmc on aws at my company. I need to be able to monitor exactly how much data moved from vmc on aws to the internet/on prem. I am pretty sure network insight can do that. Am i correct? Would vrops or vra be better? Let me know and thanks so much
Hi,
Network Insight will do exactly what you need; show top talker VMs, how much egress (and ingress) data is going out, even drilled down to specific destinations (like your VPN, or geos/countries). You can see what kind of traffic is being sent out, and much more.
If you're already on VMC, you can get vRNI Cloud as a free eval, start here: Sign up to vRealize Network Insight Cloud
The eval will allow you to see if everything you need is there (probably will be).
I would recommend a combination of Network Insight and Wavefront to monitor the edges. Are you wanting to monitor data flow, packets, or total bytes out to the Internet?
So we recently created a vmc on aws environment which is basically a vsphere cluster getting hosted on the aws network. They charge network egress by any data going out of the environment. We are connected with a vpn so basically anything that is going out to the internet (that includes data coming back to on prem) will be charged by the GB. We need to know which vms are accounting for which amounts of egress so we can forecast monthly egress costs and chargeback to business units for their egress usage. I can't find anything in vrops that will show that but it does look like network insight will. Is that correct? Really appreciate the advice. rick
