ESXI Licensing

Hi experts,

I have a  site, where cluster contains 30 servers with 4CPU / 16C / 32T.  All servers will use Vmware as a hypervisor with vMotion enabled and Windows server 2016 Datacenter.

Vmware:

o ESXi

o vCenter

  • How do the Armed Forces best license this data center (Agreements and Products)?
  • What licenses are needed?

Any help would be appreciated.

Well you already know about this paper as I posted it on your last thread: https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/products/vsphere/vmware-vsphere-vs...

You'll need vSphere licenses for your 30 hosts (at least Standard level to get vMotion), plus vCenter Server Standard.

vSphere licenses are per CPU, so if you have dual-socket hosts you would need 60. vCenter licenses are per instance, so just 1 of those required.

All of that is explained in the licensing paper.

No idea on the armed forces part.

You'll also be required to buy at least 12-months support - you should go for at least Production level: On-Premise and Hosted Support Offerings: VMware

Contact VMware Sales and they will help you get a full and proper quote: Contact Sales, Contact Support, Product Support

From your email address, you seem to work for a service provider - and you have a history of asking licensing questions on the forums. Are you a VMware partner?

Whoever supports you as a VMware partner should be able to help you with these kinds of questions.
