Display the power icon in the Windows 10 system tray?

I'm running Windows 10 in VMware Fusion. I have Windows 10 "Always show all icons in the notification area" enabled.

I enabled Virtual Machine > Settings > Advanced > Pass power status to VM ... then rebooted; however, the power icon icon doesn't appear in the Windows 10 system tray.

In "Turn system icons on or off", Power is grayed out -- so it seems that Windows 10 sees the VM as a desktop and, therefore, won't display power features. Is there a workaround for this?

Hi,

Did you pass through the power status to the VM?

Menu "Virtual machine" -> Settings -> "Advanced"

Yes; I did that. Rebooted the VM afterwards. No change.

Hi,

Hmm.. and VMware Tools is installed I presume?

Is your virtual hardware recent? If not you might want to upgrade it to the latest.

VMware Tools is installed and up-to-date. I’m not familiar with upgrading virtual hardware in Fusion. Can you elaborate?

Sure.

Every VM has a set of hardware just like in the physical world, except for a VM it is virtual and it can be changed.

With the VM shut down, select it in the VM Library and then go to the "Virtual Machine" menu, from there select "settings".

Under compatibility you can select which Hardware Version to use for your VM.

Hardware version 16 is the most recent one for VMware Fusion 15.x

It might already be a current Hardware Version (most likely it is), but it is something to check in these type of issues.

Hi,

Then, at least in theory, it should all work.

If there are still problems then I would expect those to be in the guest OS.

What's the Fusion version and do you use Win1019H2? I want to try to see if this is a commen issue locally.

Could it be related to your Mac host? That is , is the host a MacBook or Desktop machine? My host is a MacBook and the power status icon displays fine in my Windows 10 VM.

If I open Device Manager on the VM I can see a battery under the Batteries section. However, if I open Device Manager on one of our ESX 6.7 VMs, it doesn't show any batteries - presumably because the ESX Host is a server. Not does it show power status in the task bar/status tray.

My host is a 2015 MacBook Pro. Device Manager > Batteries displays only "Microsoft AC Adapter".
