Linux Mint 19 VMware install problems

I have made multiple attempts to run VMPlayer on my Mint v19 host - it installs with multiple errors and will let me create a Win7 64 Bit client but then will not re-open the client once it is closed.

Trying to Open a previous created VM causes empty this folder to be created. Closing the VMPlayer and reopen and folder isn't there until you again try to open the VM.

Windows 7 x64.vmx.lck

I've tried the umask solutions, setting umask to both 0002 and 0007 as suggested elsewhere and for both my user and root. No change.

Double-click on the actual client .vmx file opens the client.

VMware Tools is not available in the VMPlayer even when a download happens as the client is starting. Also the VMPlayer has no option to delete client machines, which seems odd.

There is no hostd so can't be a 'proxy.xml' to change permissions on as suggested.

markmcd@Ringworld:~$ vmplayer

An up-to-date "libaio" or "libaio1" package from your system is preferred.

I uninstalled and ran a fresh install then tried to open the in plave VM - zips of the logs are attached.

Sadly I have exactly the same problem. If you double click the .vmx file for your Win7 client the guest machine will open. That's as far as I've got. I also have the same issue with VMWare guest addons.

I'm seriously thinking of regressing to Mint 18.3 and VMWare 12.x which works correctly.

Do you have a link to download the v2 or other previous version of VMWare? I had a look around and couldn't find one to use.

Downgrading Linux is not my 1st choice - I'll likely use VirtualBox instead. Not as good but at least it works as specced.

NVM on the download Q. I found the VMW DL area and it has a choice of versions.

Also there's a new version to the one I had a problem with, v15.5.1 I'm also DL'ing v15.1.0 to try if the new version doesn't fix the issues.
