vCenter Server and vSphere Essentials Kit

I'm a newbie with vCenter Server and licensing. I'm wanting to know if it is possible to use vCenter Server to monitor a web service on a VM and on the web service going offline to reboot the VM if licensing via the Essentials kit??

vSphere HA includes a VM monitoring feature which may work for your needs: VM and Application Monitoring

The Essentials Plus kit includes HA, but not Essentials.

Thanks for the response.

My next question is, if we upgrade to Essentials Plus, will the VM application monitoring work regardless of the fact that we won't satisfy other requirements for HA operation, i.e., our setup is only two ESXi hosts with each using local storage.

VM Monitoring and Application Monitoring doesn't need shared storage. It will work as follows:

1. has the ability to restart the monitored service

2. has the ability to restart an operating system

Now monitoring the service isn't necessarily easy or a "1 click" operation. I think there are easier methods for this this, most are included in modern operating systems, which i probably would recommend looking at before using Application Monitoring.

Anyway, if you do want to use Application Monitoring, there's a chapter in my book on this topic, feel free to download it here (free download!) >> Rubrik | eBook: Clustering Deep Dive
