Is it possible to install 15.5.0 over 15.5.1 to resolve my keyboard freezing issue

What is the easiest way to get back to VMWare Pro v15.5.0?

Since i upgraded, my keyboard keeps locking up. And I am NOT using the enhanced keyboard. v15.5.0 did NOT have this issue.

Hi,

USB keyboard, Bluetooth perhaps?

If it is a Bluetooth one them I might have a tip.

Otherwise... to go to a lower version the procedure is to uninstall 15.5.1.. reboot ... install 15.5.0

You should shut down -not suspend- your VMs before doing so.

I do not expect problems with the guest within these versions.

You might however have to uninstall VMware Tools as well if you still see the problem after that as well.

In fact if I had your problem I would completely re-install VMware Tools as a first troubleshooting step (again uninstall -- reboot -- install)

Thanks for your reply.

No, it is USB keyboard. My USB mouse works fine. Just my USB keyboard keeps stopping when I am running a test VM. Outside of VMWare, it still works fine. I know the keyboard is freezing because even the num lock doesn't work. Please keep in mind that the num lock led is turned on by the computer, not the keyboard. So this is a good indicator that there is no operating system handling the events from the keyboard.

Any other ideas?

Hi,

As you specifically mention the keyboard LEDs..

There's a feature in recent VMware Fusion (not sure, but I think it is also in Workstation) to sync the keyboard LEDs based on what the guest OS thinks it should be.

This can be turned off by the following setting:

mks.keyboard.setHostLEDs="FALSE"

This would have to be set at the general configuration file.

Not sure if it has any influence in the .vmx

So it is speculation that this is even in Workstation and that it might help addressing your issue.

Worth a shot I suppose...

So you have seen that I posed another thread with the same thing. What worked for me was to completely remove 15.5.1 (thank God I had remote access to the computer). That fixed it for me.

Curiously, I then tried to re-install 15.5.1 from scratch and this time it worked... however, the laptop freezes (about 1 in 10) when coming back from sleep... I'm thinking I'm going to go back to 15.5.0

This is a theory I have...

the freezing issue was caused because when the wizard for 15.5.1 came, I made the mistake of not selecting "Use the enhanced keyboard driver". What I'm thinking is, my previous installation (15.5.0) had it and somehow the upgrade process was not clean (i.e. a bug) and when the computer rebooted, it created the lock

2) when i re-installed 15.5.1 I did choose the enhanced keyboard driver... so I wonder if that's the partially the answer: basically the setup does not work when the driver is not selected...

We'll see if downgrading works... as for your question about downgrading, the tricky part for you is how to gain a way to talk to the computer. I you have remote access, then just uninstall vmware through control panel. If you don't it's going to be painful... you'll probably have to boot into recovery and restore the previous snapshot point (windows is pretty good about keeping track).
