Can I use the vCenter 6.7 U3 version to manage my ESXi 6.0 virtual infrastructure?

My infrastructure currently has ESXi 6.0 hosts only though I plan to deploy a new ESXi 6.7 host next year.

I have some questions:

  1. Can VCSA 6.7 U3 be used to manage my current ESXi 6.0 hosts?
  2. Is there any benefit from so doing other than be ready for the new ESXi 6.7 host and a more current vCenter version?

Thanks

Yes, vCenter 6.7 can manage ESXi host v6.0, and later. See VMware Product Interoperability Matrices

A benefit is that you get a better UI, in which you can manage almost everything through the HTML5 GUI so that you do not need to install/use Flash anymore.

Just make sure that any 3rd-party tools that you use (e.g. backup, ...) support vCenter 6.7.

Thanks, André!

My thinking was exactly about why not to benefit from the more advanced features in the newest vCenter.

I am aware of vCenter backward compatibility since it is common to have several hypervisor versions coexisting, but my concern was about if it was recommended.

Would you say it is suggested/recommended to always deploy the latest vCenter version supported by your hypervisor version?

If everything in your infrastructure (including 3rd-party applications) support the latest vCenter Server version, and there's no explicit warning (or known issues) with it, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't upgrade. That's at least what I've been doing over the last years, without any version related issue so far.
