Reservation , Limit, Shares question

Hi everybody,

I am trying to understand Reservation  for VM.

Please consider the following examples:

1)Let's say we have Memory Reservation for a VM, but VM is not using that Memory Reservation fully.

Can ESXi use the unused memory of Reservation for other VMS in time of contention?

2) Let's say we have CPU reservation for a VM but VM is not using CPU reservation fully.

Can ESXi share unused CPU reservation for other VMS?

No to both questions.

The ESXi host will not use the reserved resources for other VMs, otherwise a reservation wouldn't make much sense, would it?
