How to monitor the VMs using vROPS

Hi Folks,

Can you please elaborate on how to monitor the VMs using vROPS.

I understand that once we add the VCenters into VROPS, all the related VMs inside the VCenter gets automatically discovered.

1. Do we need to install any management packs to monitor the VMs

2. How to do deploy the policies onto those VMs

3. Where is the default policy for VMs located in policy library and what is the name of that policy.

4. After VMs gets auto-discovered, does the default policy gets auto-deployed.

Please help.

You can configure metrics for VMs to monitor and forecast usage. Please refer: Virtual Machine Metrics

In case you are looking for application level monitoring you can refer: Application Monitoring

Once the VMs are auto-discovered after adding the VCenters into VROPS.

Then, what are the polices we need to deploy to start collecting data and metrics for all the VMs in the environment ?

I'm not looking for application monitoring. I'm just looking to monitor the VMs through out-of-box without installing agents.

When you add a vcenter to vrops it will auto collect metrics based on the default policy. I would recommend creating a new policy for your company and making it default. You can make sub policies off that if you want to not collect certain metrics or disable/enable different alerts.

You would apply the different policies to different sets of objects using custom groups
