vRA 8 - SCCM Deployment

Hi All,

Has anyone had any success with vRA8 and SCCM Deployment methods? Starting the process of migrating from 7.6 and this is the first stumbling block.

Is there any update on this?

We are looking into vRA 8 integration with SCCM.

What for integration are you looking for?

We use SCCM, we prepare the SCCM agent in the Windows Template

Our Windows OS team uses kickstart that pulls the OS and configs from SCCM.

In vRA 7, there was aVirtualSccmProvisioningWorkflow, but I haven't found this in vRA 8.

Can you provide detail about the SCCM agent in the Windows Template?  I'd like to share this with the Windows OS team.

We have 2 images for each Operating System.
- Golden Image
- Server Image

Only the 'Server Image' will we patch every month with the new Windows Updates.
To make a Server Image, we will clone the Golden Image.
The Golden Image contains only the software packages, but are not installed.
In the Server Image, we will install the required software like SCCM.

We install the SCCM Agent in this image with the right installation string.
After the installation in completed, we stop the SCCM Agent services in Windows.
Now we remove the SMS CFG file in C:\Windows.
We remove the SelfSignedCertficate trought MMC from the server.
We change the startup type of the SMSAgent to Automatically Delayed (service is in stopped state!)

Now we can run sysprep to close the image and mark it as template.
Let me know if you have any questions

The Windows OS team is asking for a way for vRA to pass information (hostname, IP address, etc.) to the SCCM client.

I explained vRA configures the OS with hostname, IP, and network configuration via vmtools.

The OS team stated that is the problem. SCCM performs those tasks today (from manual input). So ideally, if vRA could somehow supply the information to SCCM, it would run with it. Or they would have to figure out the best way to handle it with a new model (and process changes that they do with SCCM today).

So I guess the question based on your response is how does SCCM pick up the base system configuration vRA sets up on the OS?

I understand your situation is different from ours.
We use SCCM not to deploy the virtual machine, we use a VMware Template.
After the template is deployed, we use SCCM also to configure some things, but we do that not immediately (it take 30 minutes after it is deployed).
