DEM local Printers

I am setting up DEM for the first time and loving it. I can't seem to find or see how to setup Local Printers in the DEM is that possible and if so how do I do it? or what documentation is there to help with setting that up.

Local Printing (not from MAPPING PRINTING)

Is not set by DEM directly but from VIRTUAL PRINTING in the Horizon setup.

Note: You can't use thinprint and virtual printing at the same time.

If you want to do it from Enterprise network you can use "location base printing" in DEM from ADMX

but for our purpose we needed to enable virtual printing for people that at home. All Enterprise printers are mapped using Printer Mappings in DEM.

Our setup.

Installed Virtual Printing on Golden Image but I did setup the services to manual and change permission to the service to Authenticated user

then I disabled the service.

From DEM in Shortcuts

Ive set a rule to start the service if your IP is outside of corporate office IP and part of the "Remote Printing group"

---conditions---

Not Endpoint Ip address is in range "Corporate local IPs")

and User is a member of group "Corporate group for remote printing"

---Settings---

On the setting tab those are the things Ive used

Target: C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe

Arguments: "net start vmware_print_redir_service"

Start In: C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0

Destination: Program folder - Startup

Undo at logoff and refresh during shortcut refresh

The last part is to remote the printer once the user log inside the corporation IPs (local computer to the domain)

You can use the Privilege Elevation to change the status of the service but I couldn't make it run correctly so far so I had to find another option

Giving access to the local user to start the printing service was ok for US.

Hope this help you or others

Have a nice day.
