I want to upload a virtual machine from Workstation 15.5.0 to ESXI 6.7 U3, build 14320388.
This does not work, Workstation complains that 15.x is not supported by the ESXi server, and I should change the hardware compatibility e.g. to ESXI 6.7 U2.
See attached screenshot.
This looks like a bug to me. Is there a way to upload the VM without downgrading the hardware compatibility?
Not sure its a bug, but hopefully a vmware employee see's it to confirm, but accounding the the new vm wizard 6.7 update 3 isn't listed, which is why its complaining.
If you look at the limitations in 15.x vs the update 2 you can see there are graphic settings in the 15.x settings that aren't available in the esxi 6.7 update 2 settings. Even 6.7 update 3 calls the hardware version "6.7 update 2 or later" which means for it to work you probably need to have the workstation hardware set at 6.7 update 2. This is only my interpreting what I've seen, and I think the prior suggestion of vmware converter is really the only option
Hi,
Export the virtual machine from workstation 15.5 and import it on ESXi 6.7 U3 using Vmware vCenter converter.

Thank you for this suggestion.
Of course, I can also use other workarounds like cloning the VM first, then changing the hardware compatibility so I can upload it without going through the conversion step.
Still, this looks like a bug to me that VMware should fix.
Can somebody confirm this?

Hi,
Certainly there are some solutions.
I would prefer to use Vcenter converter because it could fix other small incompatibilities.
It is not a bug, it is simply not supported directly.
