VMOTION - Connecitvity Loss

Whenever the VMOTION happens the Application Users will loose connectivity at that time. But This does not happen always, but at times it does. We have raised several cases with Microsoft & VMware on this issue & have worked for several weeks, but they could not determine the actual cause. Besides, we also could not recreate the issue by doing vmotion manually. So the only way for Microsoft to investigate further is during a live issue. But in most cases it is not possible because we always had to fix the issue quickly during such instances than spending hours on troubleshooting. If anyone faced similar kind of issue in your environment kindly share me if you have an solution.

There are multiple causes for this problem. Could you please tell us about the ESXi version you used, the physical hardware and the Guest OS that was having problems?

Hello Tayfun,

Thank you for the response. The ESXi version is ESXi, 6.0.0, 14513180 and the Guest OS is L.inux

Only a guess:

Are the physical switch ports to which the hosts are connected configured with e.g. spanning-tree portfast, or mode edge?

Does this happen regardless on the host to which the VM has been moved to, or can it be tied to a specific host?

"we always had to fix the issue quickly "

What do you do so far to resolve the issue? Migrate the VM back to another host,  clear ARP caches,

André
