Can i remediate the same host update manager is running on?

Is it possible to use the Update Manager to update the host it is running on?  Or is my only option to use CLI or a USB/ISO ?

Not possible. You have to use the cli/iso way.

However it's better to migrate the VUM to another host first, then upgrade its old host. Otherwise you should do it via running: esxcli software vib update/install or install by an ISO/USB

Yes You can.. remediation requires you to put host in maintenance mode and when you do that, the VMs on the host including the update manager will migrate to another host

provided you have DRS automation fully automated
