What vHW the VM currently have?

What ESXi Version on the source Host?

What ESXi Version on the target Host?

To make it short... you cant migrate a vHW13 VM when the source Host is limited to vHW11 or so. The vHW depends on the ESXi Version. It can be limitet on DC,Cluster and maybe Hostlevel.

Some Options how to downgrade the vHW. WARNING: Its not supportet. If you leverage some of the new Option within the new vHW than you cant downgrade.

- Unregister the VM. Edit the vHW entry in the *.vmx and register the VM again

- Create a new VM with the right vHW and add the EXISTING vDisk to the new created VM.  Remove, but not deleting,  the vDisks from the other VM.

Sure... just upgrade your ESXi 5.5 Host to 6.5 and your problem is solved.

Again VM vHW depends on ESXi version.
