I have tried those nonsense of turning off defend guard/credential guard, hyper-v/sandbox; applying vmware updates, reinstall vmware workstation pro; tried vmware workstation player... NONE fauxing worked; still can't even start vmware.

Well I ran in the same trouble. As I was not aware using VMWare Workstation Pro, I digged into my previous downloads at the VMWare site, and found something with that name. I found version 12 of the product, Installed it and de-installed it immediately afterwards (both using the downloaded installer). That solved the issue. Most likely updates from version 12 up to 15 left some residu behind, which was cleared using the proper removal procedures.

All version can be found here:

Hope this helped, Arjen

Same trouble: update windows, and workstation 14 pro is broken.

2 solutions:

1. Buy upgrade to vmware 15.5 (and be prepare to pay every year because win updates will break it).

2. For free: install hyperv functionality in windows pro. I will try this, it is free, and if it is like win server, it also has snapshots. And it will work after win updates.

Are we, owners of Workstation 14 Pro, unfortunate or was it scheduled ?

VMWare Workstation 14 Pro - End of support - 2019-03-26
https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/support/product-lifecycle-matrix.p...

Windows 10 1903 - Release date - 2019-05-21

Windows 10 - release information - Windows Release Information | Microsoft Docs

However THIS thread on potential problems with 1903 started 2019-04-04 with user comment.

It seems to me that initial problems came from both VMW versions 14 and 15 and I just guess some MSFT early release, some inner circle or dev preview.

Which makes me think that VMWare probably knew about the issue at the beginning and simply dithed version 14 and probably patched version 15 (15.5 now will probably patch that).

However same product life cycle tells me that Workstation 15 has end of support on 2020-12-19  roughly in one year :-(.

And so when they schedule another update with MSFT or somethign similar happen unexpectedly, then VMWare will flip the switch and I'll be done.

I do see regular poeple helping each other here on forum, supplementing official support from VMWare, and I'm not sure I've seen any official statement here. Pretty no support at all.

I always thought about VMWare as leader of the VM segment, but maybe they grown too much and became non-operational.

I have tried even tricks like turn on and off hyper-v, reboots in between, disabled vEthernet NIC adapter etc.
Workstation 14 installed from scratch, no previous setup (test PC). Still the same issue, some Compatibility Assistant simply tells that Workstation will not even start (app itself, no VMs inside yet).

With problems reported to ver 15 here, and (sorry to say) lousy support I see, I'm not going to spend 150 US$ for things which "might" work and will break every year.

Support came from less expected side .. post 65 by 'potkan' pointing to https://www.tenforums.com/virtualization/141820-vmware-workstation-pro-cant-run-windows-message.html

Where way via MSFT ADK 'Compatibility Administrator Tool' seems to be working. At least Workstation 14 Pro starts and is able to run VM unit (tested with old Win2008 server).

waqasalisha .. "this best technical youtube channel for IT Professionals."  ROFLOL. Maybe in your language.

But I sort of expected English speaking channel and maybe something more than statement that version 15.5 should fix the VMWare Workstation issue.

Not going to buy upgrade for getting my software workign again, and maybe for one more year.

Due to the reported problems with 1903 and VMWare WS Pro 15, I made the changes needed to postpone the 1903 upgrade on my laptop for 30 days. This morning was apparently the end of that 30 day delay, and when I woke it up I got the notification that I needed to start the upgrade or temporarily delay it again (alas, another 30 days was not an option). I requested the delay.

I headed for the office and everything seemed normal, but shortly before noon my display started flashing erratically. I'd been running on battery for a couple of hours and was hoping it was related to that. The screen finally went black, though, and the only thing that I could really do was hold the power button down for 5 seconds to perform a power-cycle.

Of course when it came back up, it started the 1903 install. Not much I could do about that, so I left it, now plugged into its power brick, to complete the upgrade and headed out for lunch.

When I returned, the upgrade had completed and the version showed 1903, OS build 18362.418.

And VMWare Workstation Pro v15.1 worked just fine.

I was quite surprised ... should i have been?

I have found a fix to this problem.

Applies to all versions of VMware, i think.

Download this .reg file:

VMware Compatibility Assistant.reg - Google Drive

And then open it, and follow the instructions.

Now after you opened it, log out of Windows (Main PC, not in VMware) and log in back. Now try to test the Virtual Machines and it should work.

It appears this issue has to do with the Compability Assistant which was introduced in version 1903.
