VMware player 12.5.9 crashes when USB device (ext HDD, USB dongle, ... is connected.
This is since a Windows 10 update.
VM gets stuck, nothing doesn't work anymore, not even power down.
The only way to stop is kill the VMware player.
Is windows 10 your host OS? If so, realize only versions 14 and 15 are Supported on Windows 10 (Which one depends on the build/version of Win 10)

Indeed Windows 10 is the host OS. I have installed VMware player 15.5 and the problem is solved.
