vRealize Guest Agent WITHOUT Software Components

I've never used the vRealize Guest Agent before. After reading up on it, it seems it may be a solution to some problems we are trying to address (i.e. running scripts during provisioning without placing files in the template).

We are not licensed for Software Components, however. Will the vRealize Guest Agent still provide us value? Can it be used without Software Components?
