vCenter appliance VIB storage URL

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to utilize all the vCenter VIBs and ISOs stored in VUM for use with ESXCLI Software commands. I'td be really useful if I could use what already exists on in VUM instead of copying the ones I need to a datastore or using an external URL and opening new FW ports. Anyone know if they are accessible somehow through a URL that I could put in my command?

If they're already stored in VUM, why not use VUM to remediate the hosts you wish? There's far more automation possibilities this way than what you're trying to do which, to my knowledge, is not possible.

Hi,

We are using VUM in patch automation scripts but we have some issues with Software Image profiles.  So by using ESXCLI instead we can push exactly what we want and even allow us to easily rollback or change profiles altogether.  VUM is a little more limited and has also had issues in itself so would be nice to bypass altogether.

Anyone?

Yeah, I don't think there's any option for you there to leverage the artifacts stored in VUM to be used by esxcli. You'll have to roll your own system by which you use some shared datastore as an artifact repository and call them with esxcli.

I've develeoped my scripts to use our UMDS http repo and added all the custom images we need.  It works and works well, in fact, better than VUM but the issue i'll have is that every ESXi host will need to access the UMDS http repo directly.  It would be a lot easier to hit the vCenter as the ports are already opened and the data  would be local LAN or at least closer to our UMDS.

To bad, if there really isn't a depot on VUM! Smiley Sad
