Upgrade domain controller from 2008 to 2019 with View, AppVolumes and UEM.

Hi all,

I would like to make you a question guys. I need to upgrade the domain controller of a client and this client use Vmware View, AppVolumes and UEM.

What considerations should I consider?

It's the first time that i upgrade a DC with one infraestructure with View, AppVolumes and UEM. I need to do something especial with View, AppVolumes and UEM?

Hi Zomig,

From UEM's perspective, I don't think there's anything special to keep in mind. UEM does not have any specific dependency on domain controllers; we just leverage standard Windows functionality, like Group Policy for configuration.

Thanks for your response @DEMdev.

Do you know about the others software? Do you think that i will have any trouble with the ADMX for the UEM?

Regards.

Hi Zomig,

Sorry, I can't speak to App Volumes or View – I only know UEM/DEM (the new name for UEM.)

I can't imagine you'll have any issues with UEM's ADMX templates or GPOs, as that's basic AD functionality. If that were to break during the DC's upgrade, you'd have bigger problems to deal with than UEM...

I went from 2008 to 2016 without any issues in any of them, but you may want to open a horizon and appvolumes case to be sure, they can check past cases for anything that may have been reported. The only one that may have an issue that I can think of is appvolumes, and that's how it looks at the tokens and handles security, and I think Horizon would be less sensitive.
