Where do I find my activation key?

I just purchased Fusion and downloaded it. but I cannot find the activation key.

It is not on the invoice or under my profile etc.

Hi,

Normally the key IS on the invoice. I just checked my email archives and the serial is on the "Order confirmation" email.

If it is not, then I think you should contact VMware sales.

AlessandroRomeo68 , please try to read the question a little bit better next time.

It is frustrating for the person asking the question to get an answer for something else. It is also a waste of your precious time.

It isn't the first time I see you do this or I would have dismissed it as we all make mistakes (I sure do and I certainly have my own "oops misread the question" mishaps)

Hi,

VMware Knowledge Base

How to License VMware Fusion and Fusion Pro (2014287)

Last Updated: Categories: Informational

Purpose

This article provides the steps to license VMware Fusion 10.x to 11.x

Resolution

To license VMware Fusion:

1.      Launch VMware Fusion.

2.      Go to VMware Fusion > License.

Note: For Fusion 8.x/10.x/11.x, you are given an option to enter the license when Fusion is launched for the first time.

3.      Enter the serial number.

The VMware Fusion Activation Code is an alpha-numeric code. For VMware Fusion 11.x,10.x,8.x, this code is 25 digits.
For example:
AALYG-20HVE-WHQ13-67MUP-XVMF3

Note: If you have purchased a retail box, the license key can be found on a small white registration card inside the box. If you purchased an electronic software download (ESD) version, your license key can be found in your order confirmation email.

Hi,

Yes it might be there too. I always had to register it myself down there, but perhaps there's a mechanism that creates them there on your behalf.

For the topic starter:

That's on:

https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/login

Login and look for "License keys" on the right hand panel.

What is the difference between what you wrote:

"Normally the key IS on the invoice. I just checked my email archives and the serial is on the "Order confirmation" email."

and the note I reported:

"...your license key can be found in your order confirmation email."

??

The problem in my opinion with just posting links, is it might be easy to miss the info unless the kb is about that very specific issue. It would be easy to miss that part since the bulk is about how enter the key, and where the key can be found is only a footnote. Sharing the kbs are great in my opinion but I also like adding my interpretation of how it solves the posters issue

Hi,

Oh.. it is hidden in the footnote...

You post a link to the KB article and then copy&paste the entire content with the disadvantage of hiding the part that it was about.

Sorry I did not see that and not sure the TS would have found it either.

You are correct that the KB had the answer, but you have to read it carefully (Oh.. turns out it was me not reading well - egg meet face)

I do think that sjesse's note make sense though and perhaps just post the relevant quote from the KB.

From your answer:

"It isn't the first time I see you do this or I would have dismissed it as we all make mistakes (I sure do and I certainly have my own "oops misread the question" mishaps)"

I understand that you answered me on the basis of a precedent of a few days ago with another moderator ... and not for what I answered. If I had seen my answer well, it was identical to yours ... the note at the bottom I entered in bold, only to make it more visible.

It is understood that I am not particularly sympathetic, that's why it attacks me... anyway no problem, I take it as a starting point to improve the answers (THE QUESTIONS I READ VERY WELL).

Best regards,

Alessandro Romeo

Hey Alessandro,

No I had not seen that one (but have now), I think it was another KB post link I saw.

If I had seen the warning from the other moderator, then I would -hopefully- have read your reply better and have spotted the bolded text, or I would simply have dismissed it.

Alas, sadly I did not see either.

The problem we as moderators have is that there are people answering posts who care more about gathering points as about helping out people.

One of the recurring patterns of a points gatherer is:

- they tend to post links to KB articles or links at the internet without answering the question

- tries to answer a lot of posts

- has a "please award points footer"

Seems I misplaced you in that category.

My apologies as I now see you do work hard on trying to help the users out.

That's the main thing we care about as a moderator.

Trying to say things in your own words and then adding a link to "the official doc/KB/whatever" might help the user find the answer easier.

It doesn't have to be long, even just a "please look for foobar in the text" can help already.
