Hi,
is there any way to change the default NIC type of new created NICs of vCD VMs?
If i add an extra nic to a Win2K12 vm it will be E1000e instead of our prefeerd vmxnet3.
Kind regards
Hi,
When you create a new virtual machine from an ISO file, the default NIC is created, this is because you have not yet installed the VMware tools and the VMXNET3 is not seen. If you want to create virtual machines with the VMXNET3 NIC you have to create a template already with the updates and the VMware Tools installed.
Then before the conversion to Template you change the type of NIC in VMXNET3.

No, i deploy a VM from template. As you mentioned the first NIC is from the template -> vmxnet3.
But when adding a second NIC it's E1000e
Just figured out that it's possible to change NIC type in the flex client. So final question: Any chance to change the default for new NICs to VMXNET3?
Hi,
When you add the second NIC you must select VMXNIC3 from the drop-down menu:

indeed! from the drop-down menu ...
Jep, but any setting to control the default value for a new nic?
In vCD9.7 HTML5 this setting is not a (yet, waiting for vCD 10)
HI,
alternatively you can use a script in PowerCLI and you can specify the type VMXNET3
new-networkadapter -vm <vmname> -NetworkName "<Port group name>" -Type "VMXNET3" -startconnected
How to change the VM Network adapter from E1000 to VMXNET3 // PowerCli – vurIT
Alessandro Romeo
Yes, if the VM is powered off.
Why is the default e1000e rather than Vmxnet3?
I assuming Alphabetical order.
