Applications-via a shared folder or copy to virtual machine

Is it better to use applications on host via a shared folder or to copy the application to the virtual machine?

Thanks

I don't know which is more efficient in terms of performance, but I would definitely reinstall (not just copy) the apps in the virtual machine.  Reason being to keep a clear separation between the different operating systems.  You really don't want 32-bit apps hanging around in 10.15, nor for the VM to 'see' apps which will not run in the 10.14 (or 10.13) VM.  Keep the shared folders for your data.

I already use a 10.13 VM in that way because I can't get my Canon scanning software to work in 10.14.  I shall continue with my 10.13 VM once I have updated to 10.15.

Not sure what your intent is here.  A Windows virtual machine can't run a Mac application, and vice-versa.

A virtual machine is a completely separate computer.  If it doesn't have an application installed on it, it can't run it.

This is about an Apple host and an Apple virtual. The upcoming Apple OS X will not run 32 bit apps. So, I need to run those in an older OS. Hence, in a virtual older Apple OS. Do I copy them to the virtual or just keep working with them in a shared folder on the new OS. Which is more effective?

Thanks for the reply and the help.
