Esxi 6.x and Token ring

Hi,

I'm trying to solve following problem. My customer has old PC computer and "IBM PCI Token-Ring adapter" with Windows 2003 Server OS. I'm planning to convert this physical machine to Vmware virtual machine. I have tried to search information of Token ring support in VMware Esxi, but information what I have found is little bit confusing. There was mentioned "host-only networking and NAT". I understand of course what these mean.

Can anyone help me and tell is it possible to get Token Ring network working in VMware Esxi and how?

Thank you!

Virtual machines use a virtual Ethernet network adapters, independently of what's used in the underlying hardware. In case of Windows 2003, the default NIC is an "E1000" virtual device. So when you convert the physical system, the target VM will not use a Token Ring adapter anymore.

Thank you for your answer André. I'm aware of this. Let's put my question this way: If I would have Token ring card in Esxi server, would it work, is it supported card type (not sure is it possible to get PCI card work or has even been made any PCI-E Token ring cards?)?

I'm not sure if Token Ring cards are supported, i.e. whether ESXi contains the required drivers.

Please check whether your device is listed in the VMware Compatibility Guide - I/O Device Search

Personally I think your best bet is to install an ethernet nic in the server and then try to migrate the server to a VM.

Consider giving Kudos if you think my response helped you in any way.
